Unohana Retsu, also known as Yachiru Unohana, is a prominent character in the anime series Bleach. She serves as the Captain of the Fourth Division in the Gotei 13, a position she holds for centuries.

Initially presented as a gentle and nurturing healer, Unohana's true nature is revealed as the series progresses. She is, in fact, one of the oldest and strongest Captains, having previously held the title of the first Kenpachi, Yachiru Unohana. As Kenpachi, she was a brutal and bloodthirsty combatant, known for her unique swordsmanship.

Her Zanpakuto, Minazuki, manifests in two forms. In its sealed state, it's a cane, reflecting her role as a healer. Its Shikai allows it to transform into a giant manta ray-like creature that can heal those within its belly. Her Bankai, also named Minazuki, releases a viscous, dark red liquid that melts and reforms its surroundings.

Unohana plays a vital role in training Zaraki Kenpachi to unlock his full potential. She sacrifices herself to ensure his growth, restoring his suppressed power and allowing him to become the strongest Kenpachi.
